The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley is located in the south-east
of the Principality of Andorra and covers a surface area
of 4247 hectares. From the geographical point of view it
coincides with the water basin of the river Madriu.
This territory represents nearly 10% of the surface area
of Andorra and is divided up between lands belonging to
the parishes of Encamp, Andorra la Vella, Sant Julià
de Lòria and Escaldes-Engordany.
A buffer zone has been defined around this space which has
a surface area of 4092 hectares.
The sum of the surface area of the central zone plus the
buffer zone represents almost one fifth of Andorran territory.
